One of the ways we develop a relationship with God is through conversation, or prayer. We talk to him, listen for his response, and rest in his presence. And God desires this time with us. He longs for us to make time for him in this way.
Jesus was our best example of how to pray. Not only can we read about his life and see how he turned to God for all areas of his life, but he showed us how to be open and honest when doing so. Just before Jesus gave his life for us in the most painful way imaginable, he went alone to pray. He was honest when he asked God if there was any other way to accomplish salvation for us. And he was also honest when he said he would do God’s will no matter what.

A relationship with God can be a private and personal experience, but much of worship is meant to be practiced in community. God is the very embodiment of community and that’s how he created us to live. He encourages us to gather with other believers to so we can support one another, pray together, and remember God’s love for us. This is why he says to not avoid coming together for worship in Hebrews. It’s all about our encouragement as we worship him in community!
When we approach worship directly from our hearts, it’s easy to look around us and see that there are many expressions of worship in our lives. Yes, singing and dancing is one way to worship God, but when I return my tithe I’m also worshiping him. When I help others who are in need, I am worshiping him. And most importantly, when I am truly being who he created me to be, I am worshiping him. What freedom that brings to our lives, to know that the closer we get in relationship with him, the more we show him worth!

Our understanding of eternity impacts who we are right now. The way we think about what’s “coming next” will govern how we approach the decisions we make in our lives. If we think that this life is all there is, we will live our life based on this idea. If we think that life ends and everyone gets a trophy, we will live life based on that idea.

Sunday Morning Worship Experience - 11-15-15
The Bible shows us that everything in the earth was formed by God and therefore belongs to him. He created this great big, beautiful world and all of its resources as a place to dwell with us. He designed everything with such attention to detail, and then he put us over it all as managers.
When we use the term stewardship, most of us think immediately of money — but that’s only part of the big picture. In the Scripture, we learn that we are to be managers over creation, our children, our money, our homes, our bodies, and all that we do. When we do this, we get a life of reward and blessing.

Sunday Morning Worship Experience - 11-08-15
To truly show compassion for others, we must embrace who we are. If we don’t truly see ourselves the way God sees us, we’ll convince ourselves that we don’t have anything to give — and we might not even recognize the need. The facts are, we have been designed to be powerful on this earth. We get the chance to show the world around us how much God truly does love them!

Humanity is special, and the Bible shows the love story between Creator and created, between God and humans. God loves and pursues his people so we can be like him. His very reason for creating us was so that he can spend time with us and be with us throughout life. Even though Adam and Eve rejected God’s vision for creation, he continues to provide ways for us to be with him. He remains faithful to his people.

When the Bible uses the term “the Church,” it’s not about a building or denomination; the Church is us. The Church is Jesus’ Bride. It’s a community of believers who help each other and reach out to the world. We were not created to live in isolation and have no one to support us in life. We have God’s community to lean on.

Identity is an emotionally charged term. Who we are — and who people think we are — can influence a lot of our decisions. Life brings us all kinds of experiences that can shake our understanding of identity. Am I important because I drive a nice car? Am I unlovable because my marriage just failed? Am I someone who deserves respect because I’m the boss of hundreds of people? Am I bad because I struggle with hate or offense? When we find ourselves looking at the world around us and our circumstances for affirmation of who we are, that’s when we can get off track.

We are blessed in the United States to have such easy access to the Bible. It is such an amazing tool in our walk with God, and this week we get to delve deeper into how the Scriptures are a blessing in our lives.
Here at New Life, we constantly stress the importance of hearing God and walking according to the convictions that he has placed in your life. The Bible is a part of that process. As we learn to hear God’s voice for our lives, we can read the Scriptures and measure what we’re hearing. We can read examples of God speaking to people in an audible voice, through dreams, through visions, and impressions — and know that those are available for us today, too.

The definition of the word salvation is simply “deliverance from sin and its consequences.” Much of Christianity thinks of salvation in the long-term and that we can live with Jesus in heaven when our lives here on earth are over. But, let’s consider the more fulfilling meaning of being delivered from sin’s consequences. When I accept the salvation Jesus has for me, then I begin living life free from sin and it’s consequences — right now! I don’t have to wait to see the fulfillment of that personal relationship with Jesus.
